Juan J. Blanco Lozano
The pictorial work of Juan José Blanco Lozano is the spokesman of a social anguish determined by his existentialist characters and his insular circumstance.
In this section you can have immediate access to the articles of CdeCuba Art Magazine, organized on the basis of the most recent publications. They are brief texts that are not restricted to a specific formula: you will be able to realize the diversity of approaches and the freedom our authors have to develop their writing profile. Above all, they seek to communicate quickly with the reader, who is offered a presentation of the aesthetic-conceptual proposal of each artist.
The group of writers is made up of critics and specialists who reside both inside and outside Cuba, of different ages and life experiences; emerging voices with new visions and others more established with a career in the criticism and study of Cuban Art.
The main objective gravitates on the need to offer a wide and varied panorama that enriches the debates around Contemporary Cuban Art, with different reflections and approaches to the poetics of each artist; made with equally diverse tools: we can find orientations with historical, philosophical, aesthetic, sociological, anthropological analysis, applied to understand the discursive lines of each creator.
The pictorial work of Juan José Blanco Lozano is the spokesman of a social anguish determined by his existentialist characters and his insular circumstance. Hyperrealist language is among the preferences of emerging Cuban art and Osley Gil’s work is one of the examples that verify it. Abisay Puentes, is the best reflection of his painting: an open work, permeated by symbols, keys; where the individual threatens to get lost. Sandra & Emmanuel’s work is a kind of symbiosis between a modern hyperrealism and a “playful” effort from the representation. Packaged books, open in a circle, tied with a wire, barely sealed by a strip, appear in the works of Yasiel Alvarez. Leticia Sanchez manages to regain the ideal intimacy offered by mental derangement, appropriating film frames. Painting is the medium chosen by Orlando Boffill (Havana, 1964) whose work is characterized by figuration and collage. The chairs, the colonial slab, the female nude, the timeless and metaphysical space seem to be constant in the pictorial work of Ángel León Valiente. The traditional laboratory becomes an alchemical space in which to subvert the anchors of representation. Victor Manuel Ibañez walks through the difficult art of painting with lightness, without attachments to manifestos or tendencies. There is some magic in Carlos Eloy’s works that takes us to complete unrest, an enigma that seems to hide a secret. Concern about “bad things” that happen globally, would be the line of artistic work of Jormay Gonzalez Monduy. Yeny Casanueva’s production mediates between a receiver and an actor capable of dynamising the ways of understanding art. Eliseo Valdes’ sculptures show that we will always go in search of that challenging, iconic and emblematic image. In this series of slides Nedine del Valle introduces wings, antennae, legs, leaves and flowers, they are presented motionless, as if paralyzed in time. Alejandro González’s work explores from a critical orientation the structures that make up socio-cultural plots. Frank E Martinez elaborates an exquisite and necessary chronicle about the last five years of the Cuban reality. Gabriela Martinez approaches painting with a purifying vocation. He has found in nature the maximum expression of freedom, inspiration and peace. Art gives Renelio Marin the possibility of creating parallel universes that in turn show different styles and techniques. Yunior Marino revitalizes and is a forerunner of paths continued by other artists of the Cuban context. René Rodríguez’s works (painting and sculpture) are known for their versatility, dazzling with a palette of bold colors and intricate forms.Juan J. Blanco Lozano
