CdeCuba Art Magazine No.30 - MoCAA Miami

Equipo MoCA-Américas

On the evening of Friday, November 18th, the latest installment of acclaimed art magazine, CdeCuba, Issues 28, 29 and 30, were presented to the public after being delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With this event the museum gave continuity to a longstanding and fruitful working relationship with the magazine’s editor and designer, Ximo Sánchez, currently based in Valencia, Spain. Sánchez has dedicated his long career to the publishing world, and in the promotion of Cuban art in Spain and the United States.
The CdeCuba editorial project notably presents the magazine’s newest issues in art galleries, cultural and artistic institutions, art fairs and book fairs in the United States (Miami, New York), Cuba (Havana), and Spain (Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona).
As a complement to the editorial project and thus, offering a more comprehensive service to artists, CdeCuba has different services available specializing in online sales of artwork (CdeCuba Art Gallery), website creation (CdeCuba Art Webs), and the publication and printing of art books (CdeCuba Art Books), as well as the coordination of exhibitions of its Cuban Art Collection (CdeCuba Art Collection).
Many artists from Miami attended the presentation in order to speak and exchange with their colleagues. The encounter between creators who have been in the United States for years, and those who have recently arrived, was striking, the latter being very aware of CdeCuba’s impact on the island.
Apart from the magazine issues, a monographic book entitled, El Trapecista (The Trapeze Artist)
dedicated to the work of Jeine Roque Santana was presented. The book was written by art critic Antonio Correa Iglesias, who attended the event and mingled with the guests, among which was the artist [Roque] himself.

This moving photograph presents by means of a reflection taken from one of the busiest corners of Midtown Manhattan, New York, the typically artificial and chaotic spirit of the so-called «city that never sleeps». The Cuban critic and philosopher Emilio Ichikawa called ‘Looking For Abstraction At The Jungle’ an atypical «publicity» of the city of New York. He added, «the real estate is here the actual state in which the artist’s pictorial visions become habitable».
