Reynier Llanes

CdeCuba Art Books 19

The work of U.S.-based Cuban creator Reynier Llanes (Pinar del Río, 1985) also bears the imprint of a fragmentary memory. Scenes and imaginary passages from two different geographies are randomly woven together. His characters are often the types: mercenaries, dandies, gangsters or golf players. He takes up some conjectures about popular religiosity, eros and the temperature of a dreamed island or industrialization and consumption. In his work, playfulness challenges the spectacularization of everyday life, loneliness, hyper-rationalization and vice versa.
